Culture & Values The Norseman Standard

High standards.
Low ego.
Customer first.

Trust grows in the everyday decisions. The advice we give. The commitments we keep. The way we respond when the work gets hard.

At Norseman, we hold ourselves and each other to a clear standard.

Customer First Guide Always Deliver Excellence
[ 01 ] The standard

Customer First.

Understand what is at stake.

Before we recommend a solution, we learn what the customer needs to accomplish, who depends on it, and what happens if it fails. We take responsibility for helping them make decisions that serve their organization over time.

Their trust matters more than an easy yes.

Guide Always.

Bring a point of view. Stay open to a better one.

Customers count on our judgment. We ask the difficult questions, explain the tradeoffs, and recommend a way forward. We listen carefully, welcome challenge, and change course when the evidence calls for it.

Good guidance takes both conviction and humility.

Deliver Excellence.

Do what you say you will do.

We make commitments carefully and follow through. We take ownership of the outcome, raise risks early, and close the loop. We build with the care the next person will depend on, from the architecture to the handover.

Our work should hold up long after we leave the room.

[ 02 ] In practice

When it counts.

When a customer’s request carries a risk.

We explain the risk and bring a better option. Honest advice is part of the work.

When a commitment is at risk.

We speak up early, take responsibility, and agree on the next steps. People deserve time to respond.

When someone has a better idea.

We listen. We test our assumptions. We give credit. Experience should make us more curious.

When we get something wrong.

We own it, address the impact, and share what we learned. Accountability includes making the next attempt better.

When a teammate needs help.

We make time, share what we know, and work through it together. The whole team owns the standard.

The Norseman Services team together on the water

Trusted to lead. Expected to listen.

We are building a place where experienced people can do work they are proud of, with colleagues they can count on.

That means room to use your judgment. Clear expectations. Direct, respectful feedback in both directions. And a shared responsibility to help the people around you succeed.

Everyone contributes. Everyone keeps learning. The standard applies to leadership, too.

A client's post-implementation survey described the team as “extremely knowledgeable and always available to help,” then added a note for leadership:

“Keep hiring people like Terry. He is awesome.”

Guide Always

A health system wanted every data source feeding its CMDB, on the theory that more inputs meant a more complete picture. We recommended the opposite: only the sources we could trust, chosen class by class, and nothing else allowed in. We worked with them on what good looked like before anything was ingested. More was not better. Trusted was.
